The Zodiac Killer

 

I found this case interesting because The Zodiac Killer is not as "passive" as other killers, the Zodiac played and challenged the SFPD making jokes for his incompetence because they couldn't found him.Well,here is in short the Zodiac story. 

 

The Zodiac Killer was a murderer who attacked San Francisco's Bay in late 60s and early 70s, this character was a mystery for the police and society because the Zodiac never was caught and the case still un-solved. Dressed in black and wearing an executioner style hood with the symbol that recognized him in the chest, a cross circle, the Zodiac Killer terrified the area.

He attacked couples in lonely and isolated areas except for his seventh victim, Paul Stine a taxi driver, The Zodiac Killer claimed to kill 37 people but police only confirmed 7 attacks of which 5 died. Sometimes he attacked by knife and sometimes with guns, but always a different weapon of his others crimes.

The Zodiac Killer wasn't an ordinary serial killer who only attacks and cares for his trace, this Killer was a special case, he sent letters to 3 different newspapers and he demanded to be published in front page, that letters had been written with cryptic script, only one cryptogram was solved and it talked about the reason for the murders “When I die, will be reborn in paradise and the I have killed will become my slaves.” , but that is not the shocking part of his letter, in special this sentence was alarming “I like killing people because it is so much fun, it’s more fun that killing wild game because man is the most dangerous animal of all to kill.” 

  

As I say before, the Zodiac Killer case has not been resolved even after 40 years of developing in fingerprints and DNA technology.

P.S. I am not giving a lot information because in our presentation we are going to talk about The Zodiac Killer case.

THE WEST MURDERS

An interesting case occurred In England in the ’70. A Married Couple, Fred and Rosemary West, tortured, raped and murdered a few girls including their own daughter, the bodies where found in the back yard where there was an excavation to prove the theory, it took some time to get the permission to make the excavation and then they found the bones of the daughter named Heather. Rosemary was Fred’s Second wife; she helped to commit crimes because both of them had the same twisted ideas. This couple had their own child and they abused them. At the end, they found Fred and Rosemary. Fred confessed his crime. Rosemary never did, but went to jail because she was the accomplice. The husband hanged himself in jail and Rosemary is still waiting to get out of jail.

The house was demolished, burned and destroyed so no trace was left about this and no tourist would ever go to the house and take a souvenir

What were these people thinking at the time to commit these crimes? Why they do this? What was the purpose of this? We need to take a look and see which was the exogenous factor, if you see the family of Fred and Rosemary. They had problems because they lived in an incest family, the mother abused Fred; and the father of rosemary abused her. All this came back in a vicious circle, but Fred and Rosemary went too far even for their parents, because they abused and killed innocent girls that they found in the street, persons that nobody cares about. But true always get out to the light later or sooner.
The interesting thing is that Fred’s Father told him “do what you want, just don’t get caught doing it”. This Phrase stayed in his subconscious.

In this history to me the phrase “for someone unstitched there’s always someone broken” because the couple always shared the crimes and the same ideas and I think that in a bad way this phrase it’s perfect to describe that couple

Brainstorming

I am very encouraged this morning to see that some students have already begun the process of thinking about and designing their presentations.  One of the most essential planning steps for many pieces of academic work is brainstorming.  As you know, I am a strong advocate of brainstorming and the various benefits that it brings, especially when it comes to getting thoughts out on paper and organising them later on.

As I write, there are three students in front of me who are deeply engaged in this process.  I can tell by the looks on their faces that the task is not as easy as it sounds!  Sure, we can all write words on paper, but the brainstorming process forces us to organise our thoughts, and it is at that point that we often realise the real problem.  Once we focus on overcoming that, the first (and perhaps the biggest) barrier has been broken!

In short, always try to brainstorm to get your ideas on paper.  Then work on organising them.  Then it is extremely likely that your organisation will show in your final presentation, and you'll find the whole experience much more enjoyable.  The higher grades you'll enjoy are also a key incentive!

I hope that many more of you will choose to plan well, and I hope that I'll feel even more encouraged as a teacher that I am going to hear presentations that are composed of the best possible effort.

Welcome to English Reflections!

Dear Students,

Thank you for taking the time to register and add yourself to this blog.  I very much hope that it will be a useful tool that you'll find contributes greatly to your English learning throughout your time at university.

I am very aware that this is the first time that many of you will be blogging.  Some of you will even be wondering "How do I do this?," but rest assured that blogging with Google is not too difficult - in fact, this new interface makes it very easy indeed.

Please try and use the blog to its maximum potential.  There are many types of posts that we can make, as well as comments and conversations on each other's posts too.

It will take some practice, but I trust that in time you'll come to value the work that we complete here, and view this as a permanent record of your progress with the English language throughout your time with the University of Durango Santander.

I shall in due course be posting ideas as to how you can use the blog.  I hope to give you some inspiration, and to share ideas that some other students have already given me over the past couple of days.  I'll also be discussing the particulars of blogging with you in our next class.
