The Mexican SOPA

In december 2011, the senator Federico Doring presented an initiative known as "Ley Doring", that seeks that those who use internet don't download or share files registered as private property.

This law would punish those who transmit or disseminate music, videos, e-books, etc. Without paying for them before.

The called "Ley Doring" is an initiative by the side trying to protect private property of the capitalist state and on the other side puts a stop to the distribution and reproduction of contents by the users of the network.

If it is approved in these terms, any video that a person located in Mexican territory, post, transmit or download from YouTube and does not have permission, would be a reason to be sued.  The same applies to share ebooks, magazines, movies and all kinds of material that currently support the network.

I think, in my view, this law violates completely the right to freedom of expression, and obviously favors big companies, but it is a clear decline in the freedom of knowledge. However, the good news is that the Senate has left the law out of their priorities at the moment, the bad news is that it has not been discarderd completely.

  1. This definitely sounds like the Mexican SOPA Ramon. If you could provide some documents that discuss the current plans and proposals from the Mexican Government, we would be most grateful.
