Nuclear Power Plants

Nuclear Power Plants
Need? Luxury? Risk?

Last week, on our class we had the opportunity to watch a video about a debate in which two men were discussing if the world really needs more nuclear plants.
The man that was for the motion, was trying to convince us through a game in which he was playing with our emotions, like showing up some pictures and trying to make us laugh. Also, he said that nuclear energy brings less waste and it can be placed on a smaller ground, that the renewable sources destroy entire ecosystems just to be placed.

On the other hand, the man against the motion was saying that a nuclear plant is too much dangerous because of the terrorism and the facility that brings to create nuclear weapons, and he shown some statistics in which we could see how deadly are the issuing gases, presenting us a future projection; he also said that we have a lot of natural sources that we can use to provide enough energy to the world.
In my opinion, the impact that a nuclear plant can have, not only on the zone where is placed, in our planet, are too dangerous as we can see in some past accidents such as the Chernobyl disaster, place that after 26 years, still being under analysis because of the radiation effects.
I agree with the guy who was against the motion, when he was saying that we have a lot of space that we can use to place some wind power and solar power, because he explained us that we could use the seas to place some of this plants without putting our environment in danger.
Some people might think that we need more nuclear plants because of the energy demand that exist, but I believe that if we don’t waste energy as we regular do, there is no need of that excessive amount of energy that they suggest.
The more you give to the people, the most they are going to waste.
So, we need to create consciousness on people, to save energy, to help our planet, to contribute, maybe in a lower scale, but, if we work together, it will be a remarkable contribution.

  2. Adriana it was really good that you chose to write about the debate that we saw in class. Nuclear energy, and energy supply in general, are critical topics for the future. I note your point of view, and you expressed it well.
